Salary Guides & Context

Why is CTC different from Take-Home Salary?

Cost to Company (CTC) is the total expense an employer spends on an employee in a year. However, not all of it reaches your bank account as monthly cash. Your CTC often includes:

  • Employer-side contributions: Such as employer Provident Fund (PF) and NPS.
  • Gratuity provision: An employer-side amount that may be included in CTC but is not normally paid as monthly cash.
  • Variable or one-time compensation: Bonuses or variable pay that may be paid annually or semi-annually based on performance.

Additionally, your final in-hand salary is further reduced by employee deductions (like your share of PF) and income tax.
